Our Mission: To educate  Maitland and Winter Park citizens about the Best Management Practices (BMPs), used by the cities and its citizens, which will result in improvements to the clarity, quality, and color of the lakes and improve the surrounding environment.

JOIN OUR EFFORT TO SAVE THE LAKES!

Who are the Friends? We are citizens of  the Maitland and Winter Park, Florida area who have joined together to advocate improvement of the state of our lakes. Our goal is to educate citizens by developing and disseminating free educational literature to area residents, schools, neighborhood groups,  lawn service and turfgrass maintenance companies, and City personnel. Through education, many small things that citizens do, that greatly harm the lakes and the environment, can be stopped. Our group is a nonprofit organization, whose sole support is provided by membership dues. Would you like to be a member? Click the "Board" link below to view our Board members and print a membership form. We promote businesses that follow environmentally sound practices. Check our list by clicking the "BMP" link below, and then click "click here to see the list". We welcome Miller Hardware to the list. (Read the news below)

The City's lakes are tested monthly, yet few citizens understand the meaning of the test results, nor what citizens can do to help. The cities of Maitland and Winter Park are actively seeking solutions to the lakes' problems, yet few citizens know what is being proposed, nor why projects are being done. Our newsletter, "Waterways", contains articles that provide citizens with this information. Our board members develop educational materials, contact businesses and individuals to enlist their help, and investigate new methods for stormwater treatment. Please join our efforts.

                                          Current News Items:

Great news! The new Lakes Management Coordinator for Maitland is doing a great job. Her

name is Marissa Rodriquez. She can be reached at 407-539-6203 or email her at

         mrodiquez@itsmymaitland.com

The white amur are/or have been stocked in the Winter Park chain of lakes. Lake

Minnehaha stocking has been delayed. First, the cormorants had to leave and now it appears

prudent to give the hydrilla time to regrow, to give the fish a food supply. It should happen

         soon.
