Call your Lakes Manager. In Maitland call 407-539-6203 and in Winter Park call 407-599-3424. In Maitland, Ian MacDonald will visit your lakefront, identify your plant species, and guide you as to what you can and can not do. A few of the things you can not do are: you can not cut down wetland trees, dredge, fill, remove beneficial native species from other than access corridors, or use herbicides.

bullet

When you have agreed what is going to be removed, you, or someone you hire, are allowed to MANUALLY remove the plants. You can only clear up to 50% or 50 feet, whichever is less, of your lakefront without a permit from DEP.

bullet

If you want to clear more than 50%, you will need to obtain a permit from DEP before you begin any work. To spray any herbicide in the water, you will also need a special spraying permit and hire a licensed company to do the work.

bullet

Next, you need to revegetate the cleared area within six months, using recommended native species .

bullet

If you exceed 50%, or do other than what your permit allows, or fail to revegetate the cleared area, you will receive a warning letter from DEP, including possible fines and/or methods of restitution.

Questions can be referred to either Tamy Dabu at 407-894-7555 or Nathalie Visscher at 407-275-4004 at the DEP’s Lakefront Permit and Protection Clearinghouse.
